She longed to see him but it was not to be. She lived in darkness and silence and never saw the day and when she drifted to the space to sleep he descended from the heavens to wake. She thought it terribly unfair that she had to live by herself.
"You are never alone Night, I am here with you." a small voice reminded her chidingly. Apologetically she wrapped an arm around the bundle of light called North and smiled sweetly.
"As am I." said the fat pale moon from a distance. Night smiled at the moon as well and the tiny flittering stars that kissed her cheeks in comfort.
She bundled the warm stars around her and kissed North on his tip and his glow increased slightly. She gave a coughed laugh. "Thank you my friends." she said as her throat choked with happiness. She was loved here and surrounded by friends. That was enough, right?
Day pulled at his overgrown blonde bangs and cursed the trailing clouds who chattered aimlessly. "The girl in the sky's name is Night." one said that looked like a donkey. Day's irritation kicked up a notch at the clouds that he almost screamed. He could never escape his loud mouthed friends. Sun beat down up on them as silent and calm as ever.
Day put up a finger and shushed the talkative white fluff, he was kindly to them for he knew what wreckage they could deal if they became upset. When Day went to sleep the clouds usually did too but sometimes not.
"Though Night does not talk to us she converses with her unusually bright friends and sings." said another cloud who was also in high spirits. Day found himself, like many times before, being drawn into their happiness. The girl from the other side had always been a mystery to him it was nice to have the clouds on his side to tell him things.
Day grinned hugely and winked at the sulking cloud he had shushed, "What does she do in her world where it is dark beside sing?" the clouds fluffed out and began their gossip.
"Mostly she is silent and listens to the young stars talk but her main companion is a particular bright star, if you drift to close it wakes you and you are blind." said the first cloud, clearly over it's sadness. The second cloud interjected it's own information, "The bright star and the pale orb in the sky that is like Sun except light fear she is always unhappy. When she sings it makes us cry lately. She has become restless in the sky and lonely. When she used to sing you would be happy but now it just makes all sad.
Day was unusually concerned about this last information. He didn't want Night to be sad, infact, he wanted to make her not sad right away. The thought struck him odd and he turned to Sun with his brows furrowed in thought.
"What is this pale orb?" He asked Sun who beat ever so hot. Sun breezed out a huff of wind before answering.
I am sure that it's Moon, she is the light giver to the people during the other side but since they sleep she is not bright so she doesn't wake anyone up. Like you are the guardian of light, Night is the guardian of the dark." as always, Day took Sun's wiseness very serious.
"A guardian for light and dark." he said with a smile, "Maybe we should be friends." he said hoping Sun would agree. "I mean," he quietly explained to himself, "we are the same we should be friends." the last word hung lightly in the air but was not passed among the listeners as normal. They smiled at the young guardian Day.
"Yes, friends." they chanted happily.
